Event Date: Saturday, August 24, 2024
Time and Location: The celebration will be at the Octagon in the National Park or will be at 9:30 a.m. at Hickey Karate Center, 4540 Stow Road, Stow, OH 44224 depending on expected weather. Picnic will be at the Octagon Shelter in the National Park.
Registration: Registration includes the Celebration, Picnic Lunch and a t-shirt..

CELEBRATION CHALLENGEPresentations Are Grouped As Follows – The order of the event will progress from the youngest to the oldest.
Youth – 6-10 Years of Age
Junior – 11-17 Years of Age
Adult – 18-35 Years of Age
Senior – 36 Years of Age and older (may be divided further)
These groups will be further divided into beginner, novice, intermediate, and advanced subgroups, with beginners going first, then novice, intermediate, and advanced.
Beginners are defined by possessing a white or orange belt and having trained for six months or under.
Novices are defined by possessing a yellow, blue, or green belt and training for up to one year.
Intermediates are defined by possessing a purple, red, or brown belt and training for under three years.
Advanced is defined as brown or black belts with three or more years of training.
The Kwanmukan may, at its discretion, choose to combine or reconfigure presentation groups.
Categories
The categories will be Karate, Kobudo, and Jujitsu.
KARATE CHALLENGELevel One Challenge: – One kata from Taikyoku Shodan, Heian 1-5 or Tekki, and two Kwan bu for novice and beginners.
Level Two Challenge: Two kata from Tekki, Bassai Sho, Jion, Kwan Mu or Kwan-kong Chung Kwan and four Kwan bu
Level Three Challenge: Three kata, not including Taikyoku Shodan, Heian 1-5 or Tekki, and six Kwan bu
Kwan bu will be limited to a maximum of 5 techniques. Those who do Kwanmu I, II, and III or the Kwan-kong Chung Kwan will receive a special commendation. The entire series, not part of it.
KOBUDO CHALLENGELevel One Challenge: One kata and two Kwan bu for that Weapon
Level Two Challenge: Two Kata with two weapons and two Kwan bu for each weapon.
Level Three Challenge: Three kata with three weapons and three Kwan Bu – 2 for each kata.
Weapons are limited to bo, sai, tonfa, and kama. Kwan Bu will be limited in the same way as karate, except one stepping-through action will be permitted for all categories. Those who can do a kata with all four weapons will get a special commendation.
JUJITSU – EBO NO KATA (SELF-DEFENSE DIVISION)Level One Challenge: – Five of the 20 Ebo no kata scenarios
Level Two Challenge: – Ten of the 20 Ebo no kata scenarios
Level Three Challenge: – Full Ebo Kata – all 20 scenarios
Those who do the entire Ebo Kata as written will receive additional recognition.
Ebo no Kata will follow the 4 Ebo categories: holding, embracing, Punching/kicking, and Armed. Participants must have a partner and bring their own weapons to participate. Both participants will demonstrate. Ebo no Kata will be evaluated on the completeness, applicability, and realism of the defense sequences demonstrated and shall follow the general method of interruption, throw, and finish, which can include a submission.
EVALUATIONSEvaluations will be done by a panel of three to five evaluators per individual/partnership. The evaluation will be given to the student’s instructor to share with the student later. Those holding karate dan rank will do karate evaluations, kobudo by those holding kobudo dan rank, and jujitsu by those holding jujitsu dan rank. The minimum rank to evaluate is 5th dan. The maximum rank is 7th Dan. The 8th dan by art, will run the respective category. The senior Kwanmukan Shihan will sit on the supervising board for the event.
Note: To register you will need to select your events: Karate, Jujitsu, or Kobudo. You may select multiple events. You will then select your challenge level which must be the same for each event, and finally indicate beginner, novice, intermediate or advanced. This later only applies to the karate event but we require it for all registrations.
