Good morning everyone,

My name is Adam Fox. I am the General Secretary of the USNKA, appointed by Hansh Jim Matheri.

I wanted to share with you our way of honoring the Titan of a man he was. We on the board worked tirelessly with Hanshi prior to his passing on the next chapter of the USNKA, and are carrying out his wishes as instructed.

One of Hanshi’s big goals for the USNKA in this next chapter, was to have an association that came together to share the knowledge and love of Budo without politics or drama. He wanted to create an environment of open sharing while setting aside all the trappings society has placed in our paths that can prevent people from coming together to share their love of the Martial Arts.

No one person being more important than another, just lifelong students of Budo sharing and learning together.

To that end, we wanted to come up with a way to honor this man on an annual basis, so that we may help one another to carry out his wishes for all mentioned above. We decided that an annual retreat in his honor would be a fantastic way to reunite all of us whom Hanshi treated like his kids, and in whom he placed his hopes and aspirations for the future of USNKA after his passing.

We would like to introduce you to the Annual Arrow Catcher Memorial Retreat.

Last year, our first year, we had a fantastic event, and it all came together just as Hanshi had envisioned. Karate students and instructors alike, coming from all over the Country to share in the knowledge of Budo without ego or self aggrandizement. A collection of people both from Hanshi’s life legacy, and new people to bring into the fold and share our lessons, stories and warm love of Hanshi. As is said, no one can truly be gone if they live in our hearts.

There will be a Memorial Dinner on Saturday after the Beach Class, at our local Chinese Restaurant, where we can get together and share stories about Hanshi and toast the man who impacted all of us.
